Sports seats

Need to start thinking about speccing my vehicle, wanted some feedback on the seats:
Choices:
Standard
Standard electric
Sports
Sports adaptive.
Am inclined to go for the sports seats if I can get sufficient adjustment with them, if not then go for the adaptive, but would welcome others thoughts...

I have the sports seats. I elected not to go for the full blown electric jobs, as I am the only one who drives it, so no need to have the memory function. If my wife did descend to driving my flash red sports car, then would have all the electric funtions. Adaptive seats, rather exspensive IMHO for what they are..

Sports adaptive... thhye are dear, but you can make them fit perfectly with the range of adjustments available. I had a Boxster S with Sports seats for 5 years and never got comfortable in them. These new ones are very good and a welcome improvement

I have Sports seat (not adaptive) and they are very comfortable for me and I would go for them without a second thought if I had to choose again. I also absolutely agree with Nick, if no one else is going to be driving it on a regular basis (which is in my case too) then the full adaptive functionality becomes a bit redundant. Arrange to have a test drive on various, it is down to personal preference as your body frame and height is an important factor too.

I have the standard electric as the galactic emperor occasionally drives the car []. I tried standard and sports seats before ticking the appropriate option.

I find the standard seats comfortable and sufficiently supportive during spirited driving. Not sure what that says about my frame or my driving though [:D].

I ticked the manual sports seats option on the 987 and it is fantastic for those of us with a slight frame - with leather you are bound to slide about a bit when pressing on, so the sports seats really hold you in place. As has been said, if you are of a more generous build it may not be at all comfortable. Oh, no electric memory nonsense please - it's a sports car for God's sake! You'll be choosing parking sensors and rouched leather next!!!

If you are slight of frame, go for the sports seats. They are excellent and probably the first time Porsche has got its sportseats exactly right (993 and 996 always pinched in the shoulders somehow).

Re the adaptive sportseats, I would say try them and then try the non adaptive ones. I thought the fit would be identical to that of the regular sportseats, and that the only difference would be that it had more + electrical adjustments.

Once I got them tho, I found the adaptive sportseats less comfortable, because of the lumbar support. Even if you deflate the lumbar support, it never quite goes away, and you can still feel something behind the seat padding pressing into your lower back, which does not happen with the regular sport seat.

Obviously the memory function and side bolster adjustability is nice to have.

Also, adaptive seats are expensive, but as not many cars have them, I don't think you'll see much of this investment back in terms of resale value.

Go for the adaptive seats, the various adjustments allow you to get a great fit. I am fairly big with broad shoulders and the regular sports seats on the 996 always felt uncomfortable across the shoulders. As for price I believe they are about £600 more than the sports seats, not cheap I know but when the car is going to cost circa £70,000 not too bad. I really don't think we should be talking about our cars and their extras as 'investments' but each to his own, for example cocoa leather is certainly not to my and many others taste but if thats what you want go for it.

Couldnt agree more: do you like it... then get em. I have to say they are the most comfortable fit I've ever had in a car, and it took me all of 30 seconds to find the perfect position just prior to leaving hte showroom. On my Old Boxster I didnt find perfection in 5 years ownership(car was excellent otherwise though of course)

cheers

after a few test drives I found the non adaptive sports seats the most comfortable and have gone for these
thanks for your advice

On a slightly related topic, what steering wheel option did you go for? I found the sports wheel a no brainer - fatter rim, smaller diameter, nicer to hold and more in keeping with the nature of the car. Also, without the PCM/Phone do-dah I didn't need the wheel controls.

I too went for the thicker sports wheel w/o controls. The thin standard wheel just doesn't feel like a sports wheel to me. I remember upgrading the wheel on a Renault 5 yrs back - it made such a difference to the driving experience and only cost about £20.. considering youv'e already paid for the airbag etc I think £500 for a thicker rim is a bit steep though!!

I've got the electric seats on my 987S. They support well enough - but the motors move too slowly; notwithstanding the memory function - which is a problem in its own right (!), it would be quicker to change seat position manually! Also, with the number of motors fitted to control the various movements and inflations, failure is more than a possibility; on my car, the front raise/lower motor on the driver's side has been changed twice in a year.
