Spot the odd things

Lol - is this spot the ten mistakes??

For openers, "s" badge, not a bad point as my lux came with a stuck-on "turbo" badge. Oval dash in an '83 car? Interesting conversion.....[&:], "had engine rebuild but lost paperwork. GO BACK TO THE GARAGE AND GET A COPY!


 
It probably has lots of wrong parts but I spotted one more thing that seemed a little odd, can you guess what it is?

If it's some little wrong bolt in the engine bay or something then no! [:)]

Have to think that an oval-dash interior with full leather is worth the current bid if you threw the rest away.......
 
Why is the engine bay undersealed?? Underseal hides a plethora of sins!!

Mind you if it goes for £300-odd quid it might be worth it for the cream leather interior if anyone fancies a colour swap.

Power Steering?

I agree with Paul, at the current price it's probably worth it for the parts alone to a breaker.
 
The first car I ever bought was an MK 3 Escort which looked fine apart from an undersealed engine bay. Because the car looked and drove fine and I was overcome with excitement with the prospect of buying my first car I overlooked it and bought it. Apart from it leaking water when it rained (I never did find the leak) and the heater smelling like Chicken Korma it gave me three years of relatively trouble free motoring. Until I replaced the engine mounts as the engine vibrated like hell. I unbolted the engine, replaced the mounts and offered the engine upto the new mounts. To my surprise and horror three mounts lined up but the fourth was about 6 inches adrift. Turned out the whole front end of the car was bent and the engine was holding it straight. No wonder the mounts were shot. It took a modification to the mount arm and a 2-ton bottle jack to get the engine bolted up again. I was amazed it drove straight after that. Never buying a car with the engine bay undersealed was my first lesson learned in buying 2nd hand cars!!

I flogged it for £50 and got a straight Vauxhaul Cavalier SRi. I loved that car!!
 
How about the early heater controls in centre console as opposed to usual oval dash mounted fitting?
 
The seats look to be in good condition. Electric and leather. Boot carpet black not beige so couldn't do a full swap from just the one car.
Bodywork damage in very light, makes me think there is other problems not mentioned.

Wow what a spot Mike. That looks a bit neat for a later date swap. Also is that an old style rev gage in the oval dash?

Looks like the old style guage but why go to the bother, surely it would have been easier to fit a complete clock cluster?
 
I'd guess its suffered an enginebay fire at some time in the past. If you look at the bulkhead you can see a glimpse of red paint under the rubber seal so it may have been red originally
 
Slightly odd but not necassarily a major problem but in one of the pictures it looks like the handbrake is rubbing up against the seat.
 
you would be brave man to buy this if you were going to run it the engine looks awfull ,
Agree with peanut this has had an engine bay fire at some point rewired and new dash , to be honest it looks like the guys bought 4000 parts off of ebay and knocked a car up out of it could be worth the bits

I agree its a shame the engine bay has been undersealed but if you can get the car for around a grand and it has an MOT and runs it has to be worth a go. If it turns out to be a lemon, then just break it as well the parts.

What worries me more than anything, is why they are selling it after just a month. I would definitely do an HPI check and check very carefully chassis and engine numbers against paperwork etc. A definite one to view before bidding.

Just done a quick HPI. No accident markers - however car was silver until 1995!
Has had 11 previous owners.
 
The number plate matches up on Autotrader - it says its a red 2.5 944, 11 keepers, registered 1/3/83 and last keeper change 26/12/07. Maybe he bought it whilst still hung over from Christmas Day!!
