Alan Burton has kindly volunteered to organise our first run out of the the year, the details are as follows;

1. Meet on the Sunday at 10.00am Stokesley High Street in the Spring.

2. Drive to "˜The Moors Centre' at Danby (couple of miles east of Castleton in North Yorks Moors).

3. Undertake one of the circular walks available from there (suggest the Little Fryupdale walk, which is about 4 miles and will take between 2 and 2.5 hours for dodderers).

4. Return to "˜The Moors Centre', which has café, art/exhibition gallery, shop, etc.

5. Go home.

Notes:-

Good safe car park at "˜The Moors Centre', £2 per day.
Picnic lunch/refreshments to be taken on walk (best to visit café after walk rather than before, otherwise we'll never get started!!).
A waterproof jacket and sensible walking shoes or boots required.
Those not wanting to walk could still come on the run and stay at "˜The Moors Centre'.
"˜The Moors Centre' is free to get in. Further details of facilities can be seen by following the "˜discover the places/visitor centres' link at website:- www.visitnorthyorkshiremoors.co.uk.
Further details of the "˜Inspired by---"˜ Gallery at "˜The Moors Centre' can be seen at website:-
Spring Run/Walk, Sunday 15th March 2009
The Moors Centre, Danby
Itinerary:-
1. Meet Sunday 10.00am Stokesley High Street, for 10.15am departure.
2. Drive to "˜The Moors Centre' at Danby, via Kildale, Commondale and Castleton. This should take about 30 minutes. Map will be provided. The "˜Moors Centre' has a good safe car park, which costs £2 per day.
3. Undertake the "˜Little Fryupdale' walk. A route description and map will be provided. The distance is four miles, and the actual walking time should be about two hours, plus an additional half hour or so for picnic lunch, etc. This walk is circular, so we will finish back at the "˜Moors Centre' (at approx 1.30pm).
4. Visit the "˜The Moors Centre', which has café, art/exhibition gallery, play area, shop, etc. At this time of year, it is open until 3.30pm.
5. For those wanting or needing to return straight home, the driving route can be retraced to Stokesley, or alternatively a right turn at the pub in Danby leads straight up to the main Whitby moor road, where a left turn can then be taken towards Guisborough and back to Teesside.
6. If there are those who want to extend the day and the return journey home, a more "˜devious' route can be arranged back to the Stokesley/Teesside area!!

Notes:-

Toilets are available at the "˜Moors centre',
Picnic lunch/refreshments to be taken on walk (best to visit café after the walk rather than before, otherwise we'll never get started!!).
A waterproof jacket and sensible walking shoes or boots are required. The terrain is partly on road, but mostly on tracks and through fields and moorland, which can be "˜boggy'. A change of shoes is recommended on return to your car.
Those not wanting to walk could still come on the run and stay at "˜The Moors Centre'.
"˜The Moors Centre' is free to get in. Further details of facilities can be seen by following the "˜discover the places/visitor centres' link at website:- www.visitnorthyorkshiremoors.co.uk

Will meet up with you at the Moors Centre after the walk! Done enough exercise in the garden this week!

Have to find a new route to Whitby for the run on the 29th, then we may go and test the fish and chips after.

Anyone interested in the fish and chip run on the 29th is welcome to meet us en route when finalised.

Hi John & Rita
Would be nice to see you at the Moors Centre, if you can make it.
With respect to your 'Fish & Chip' run, unfortunately Pat & I will have to miss it this year, as I'm taking Pat on a belated (she was 60 in February, and is now retired) surprise holiday over that period.
Regards
Alan Burton

Excellent day out Alan, thanks for organising it, very relaxing walk, Finn and I are taking the evening off [:D]

Hope your devious!! route back was fun [;)]

Cheers

Hi Nick/Ladies & Gents
Glad you enjoyed it.
The 'devious' route up Little Fryupdale came out on the Rosedale road near the Red Lion, where we came across a large group of motoring exotica (Lotus, TVR, Porsche, Cobra replica, etc) going under the name of 'The Open Highway' (see www.theopenhighway.com). When we left them, they followed us all the way down Blakey Ridge to Castleton, so we ended up leading a massive convoy for a while. I took another devious route there which they did not follow, but they caught us up later near Stokesley, which was their destination.
Regards
Alan & Pat
