Sprucing engine bay.

Hi all,
Over the winter months I'm planning on getting the engine bay cleaned and spruced. What, in your opinions are the best products to use? There is a plethora of products out there so its hard to choose just one. I want to do everything from the aluminium through to the rubbers and plastics.
where feasible I will be replacing all screws nuts and bolts along the way and giving everything a nice coat of acf 50.

Can't help you with any suggestions for what to use apart from Polytrol on plastics but I've also been thinking of cleaning mine up for a while now. Pictures and a tips as you go please!!

Ta Tom, will do. Its not bad really, but I don't think its been properly cleaned, certainly not in my ownership at least. I think it'll come up a treat.

Mask off and protect electrics. If you have a lance, spray at a distance areas you want cleaned (do not try this on a hot engine), block, hoses, gulleys, under bonnet etc. Using Autogym Engine & Machine Cleaner spray over all areas, let it dwell for several minutes and work in any aged grime with a brush & more solution if necessary. Spray off with water. Coat all rubber & plastics with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care - again let it dwell for a short time and wipe off before drying with a microfibre towel. Remove protected electrics covers/tape. Stand back and admire. Job done.

I do it the same way as Tony, the only difference that might be worth looking at is to use P21S Total Auto Wash instead of the Engine and Machine Cleaner, just found it a little nicer to use myself, but it's a while since I've compared the two so YMMV. Vinyl and rubber care is definitely great for finishing off.
