squeak squeak

Hi All
I have a very annoying 'squeak, squeak, squeak' noise that can only be heard inside the car as I am driving along
At first I thought it was the seat/seat belt or something in the cabin. However, last night driving home I discovered it stops if I dap the brake pedal, I don't actually apply the brakes, just cover the pedal and the squeaking stops.
It is not very loud and if I turn up the stereo you can't actually hear it but as I know it is there it's really annoying me
Using my immense technical know-how I have concluded it must be brake related (being that it stops when the brake pedel is dapped)

Would anyone be able to shed some light on this and suggest a possible solution?
I bought the car 4 weeks ago, have had the 111 point check and had a minor service which involved a brake check and all was OK....but this squeak continues

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Cheers all :)

If I was of a flippant nature I would suggest you bought a mousetrap [:D] .

But on a more serious note, it sounds like a brake pad isn't quite releasing from the disk when you take your foot off the brake pedal. Perhaps removing the brake pads and cleaning the calipers would cure it?

Or, to finish on a flippant note, you could always try oiling it [;)]

The other things worth doing is filing a small chamfer on the edges of the pads and putting copper ease on the anti squeal backing plate and pad.

I dont want to give any wrong advice, but this was the same as my 996 and m3 and I replaced the suspension coils and it worked.
I had the same issue a few weeks back on my 997s also but have not really looked at it as I have been very busy, cant be the pads or discs as they were replaced just a few weeks before I bought the car, I have been doing some harsh braking so maybe. i dunno

i had a similar problem with my 993. Could only be heard inside the car. Turned out to be the brake pedal rubbing against the carpet edge. I'm serious! LOL.
