Squeaking noise when steering

No more jokes please!!!

I need need some serious help here (Hence to new post title)

When i turn the steering I can here a squeaking noise from the front. It is not coming from the engine.

It happens when i quickly turn the steering and is more evident when the car is not moving and the wheel is turned. ie reversing out of my drive.

Any ideas?

Is the noise coming from tyres? I think something like that is quite common - I certainly have experienced it. Those wide tyres tend to scrub a little while reversing and turning, particularly on full lock.

Thanks for the response,

No its not the tyres.

100% sure its related to the steering

I had same/similar problem.
The squeek was only at low speed, like parking etc.
It was going in for a service anyway, i asked them to take a look expecting something expensive.
They told me it was just a poorly fitted gator, sounded bit weird to me but as it cost nothing to put right i was happy enough.
It never happened again.

Thats the best kind of news when it goes in for a service[:D] doing something for nothing.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the tip, I will get the gators checked out. The squeaking is getting worse..

Great result for you!!!

I'd have thought the top bearing mounts on the struts would make a squeek, I've had issues with mine when turning around on the drive, sounded awful, that however was because I had lowered it and cleaned the rubbers drying them out /rolleyes!

Might be worth checking ?
