My 2001 986 Boxster has developed very load squeaking windows which sound terrible (both)
Can anyone advise me?
I have tried some WD40 (but can't get access) and looked on the net and seen how to strip off the doors panels to get at the windows but this seems to be a nightmare, very time cosuming and difficult + am am useless at stuff like this
Is the squeak a sign that the motors are failing?
Is there an easy fix?
Any help or advice anyone can give would be great

Many Thanks
Rich

Hi, mine has just developed this in the passenger window, I have sparayed some silicone lubricant along the top channel and tried to get it in the front and back channels, seems to have fixed it. But I agree its a horrible noise.

Mine does it too, but only when its hot and dry. it kind of takes the edge off the posing when you drop the window at the lights and it screeches like a bansheee :)

have any of you tried cleaning the black rubbing strips where the window goes down,, put the window down and get a damp cloth and run it between the black weather strips where the window went this may help it may not..

Hi All

I have tried a whole can of WD40 and so far so good, I am hoping it is just a 'lube' issue

Thanks for your replys everyone - Fingers crossed

My windows have been squeaking this week too - never noticed on the boxster before, but also put it down to the warm weather. Had this on other cars though and small squirt of silicone rubber lubricant in the appropriate places seemed to do the trick for a while.

The rubber seals for the window glass has a felt covering where the seals touch the glass. As the car ages the felt wears away exposing the rubber under the felt. Then seal then makes noise or the glass can pull the seal up and down, as the window goes up an down.

The fix is to replace the seals.

The simple but temporary fix is to raise the windows and sprinkle baby powder on the glass. Then raise and lower the windows a few times until the powder sticks to the exposed seals. The powder acts as a lubricant.

At least this is the noise I think you are talking about. Otherwise you need to check the window regulator.
