Squeaky front end

Hi,

The front end of our 2000MY 996 has developed an annoying squeak, that's very apparent at low speeds through town. Is this likely to be the shocks or bushes? Our car will be in for its annual service in the next couple of weeks, I just wanted to check with other members first whether this is something they have had on their cars and what the cause and fix was.

Thanks, Steve.

I agree with Nick - it's a very common problem. Current OPC price is £156.05 +VAT - the latest version seems to have jumped in price by about £40! Allowing for club discount, an OPC seem to be cheaper than Eurocarparts at the moment.

Nick, Richard,

Thanks for the information, I'll see what my local independent dealer quotes for fixing this when our car is in for service next week.

Steve.

I have just paid £150 + VAT each for mine at my local Independent. I replaced all 4 as 2 were squeaking so it was preventative. Managed to negotiate just 1 hours labour though [:)].

I am now pondering the alignment as I had a full geometry check before they replaced the control arms.....is this an issue - the Independent has not responded?

They seem very accurately made, but if you have changed all four I would get the alignment checked, just to be sure. Really, they should have done a check after changing them. It does say so in the workshop manual.

FWIW, Ray Northway is going to be doing mine in a couple of weeks & he reckons that an alignment check isn't required.
