Not had a chance yet since getting the car back to really warm her up but been reliably told that the harder track Pagid Pads squeak when not warmed up your comments please.........

oh yeah!!! its especially embarrassing when you are getting on the EuroTunnel... the eairpiecing squeel echos all the way down the train!!!

But when they get up to temp... FM do they work well!!

They squeak loads, but that way you know you have "racing" pads and can be very smug about it[:D]. My RS29s (new, endurance yellows) very good by way and easier on disks than oranges (rs4-4 i think)

I have Pagid's in my car and have had mixed experiences re noise. I put just fronts in first and they made a little noise initially and have since settled down very well. I also had the rears done and the noise returned and has stayed despite my best efforts to get them refitted, cleaned etc they can be noisy when they feel like. The braking performance is noticeably better but the noise is a pain in the ar*e.

Personally, I hate the noise and am thinking of returning to std and possibly just getting them on for track days. Never had a problem with standard pads in terms of noise or performance and just wanted to see what the extra benefits were. I think it really depends on if you are going to track the car a lot in which case it is worthwhile - for road or mixed use I would argue possibly not (unless you are ok with the noise).

If you want to buy a set of nearly new Pagid pads for the RS (couple of hundred road miles and 1 track day) let me know!!

Regards

Pad squeal varies between cars for many reasons. Firstly, pad compound makes a difference although even then, it is possible to get rid of squeal in some cases. Some pads squeal when cold, some when hot. However, there is a direct corolation between friction coefficient and noise! If you want total quiet, stick with OEM pads.

So, what can be done to reduce squeal. Anti squeal shims help a little. I also find that following the correct bedding process makes a difference and that if the squealing returns, then re bedding helps.

Driving style can effect it as well. Most race style pads prefer short and sharp braking and if you don't adapt normal road styles, that can lead to squeals and even to glazed pads.

I personally don't have an issue with a little squeal - it seems to fit the heritage of the car. I use really agressive pads (Pagid RS 15) and it will be interesting to see if we notice how much better they should be at North Weald. For me, the amount of squeal is acceptable for stunning feel to the brakes.

whilst the average chav will believe that your car is broken, and shout abuse at you for being a flash tw*t in a broken porsche ....[]

Des - no idea what you are talking about

Matt - we can then revel in Chav's lack of knowledge. Same Chav probably thinks you bought some old porker as you couldn't afford a newer one

This article is quite interesting on the subjet of braking and includes bedding in pads and deglazing disks. Apparently Garnet Paper is available from your average homebase.

I'm running pagid yellows and followed a similar procedure for bedding them in.

On the whole they are quiet on the road but I find that if you are pushing on and then slow down to go though a village or something they tend to squeal a bit but its really not that bad and it sounds pretty hard.

Of course on the track they are awesome when you get them up to temp but you need to run something like Castrol SRF to prevent fluid boil.

Pagid Orange: If anything, I get the screech with light application, in town etc, after heavy braking. Don't seem to make any noise when cold, great pedal feel though. Anyone know the material content of these pads? Presumably no asbestos these days??

The Stoptech article is considered the "bible" by many who drive cars with pad psoblems (Evo's!) and is spot on. The one thing it doesn't state is that if you start getting exessive squealing, go through the high speed bedding in process again and this often settles the noise down.

G RS - I don't believe that any pads have aspestos any more! Pagid organge are carbon based.
