Squeaky screen

I read in another thread about the need to apply mastic to the screen surround when refitting a windscreen to stop squeaks. Bizarrely I have occasional squeaks coming from my rear screen, I think, in the area of the top d/s.

I could get the screen removed, mastic applied and the screen refitted but I have heard stories of screen breaks during removal and new glass being necessary. Has anyone any experience of applying a mastic or equivalent with the screen in place to remove squeaks?
