Squeeky handbrake shoes!!

Guest

I have a squeek coming from the back left of the car. I know it is to do with the handbrake shoes.
What I have found is if I slacken off the handbrake adjuster in the hub it seems to squeek less, But obviously the hand brake lever must be pulled up about 6 clicks!
So I can either have a weak handbrake and not much squeeking or a perfect 4 click handbrake and squeeking!!
Any ideas or mods?

Adjust the handbrake at the wheels. Remove the wheel and the spacer. Look at the rear disc / hub assembly and there is a hole that when it is very near tdc you can get a flat bladed screwdriver in and flick the adjusting wheel. Or if you have time, remove the brake caliper and then remove the disc assembly, you will see the adhusting wheel and also gives you a chance to clean out the brake dust. Adjust brakes and keep popping disc on and off until happy with it.
Cheers,

It could be that the mechanism is partially siezed so when you slacken it off it only slackens off part of the way therefore you still get a squeaking noise. The brake shoes are pretty cheap, it might be worth taking a look at the mechanism with the disc off as Fred has suggested, checking that the mechanism isn't siezed and maybe replacing the shoes as a precaution.
