Stainless Steel Exhaust and cat.

Has anyone had experience of fitting stainless steel exhaust pipes and cats to a 3.2s 2002 Boxster?
I already have a Dansk s/steel silencer but I am wary of fitting incorrect pipes and cats which may invalidate the Porsche warranty on this car.

If you have a non OEM silencer you have already invalidated the Porsche warranty.

All Boxsters leave the factory with stainless steel exhaust systems.

That is surprising as I contacted my local PCB about the silencer and was told that the warranty would not be compromised except for the silencer itself.Additionally I do not think that all exhausts are stainless steel when they leave the factory with the exception of the silencer outlet tip.Has any one else got accurate evidenced info. on approved stainless systems?

You have the right to think as you wish.

In the 9 years that the car has been available it has been offered with two exhaust systems, namely the standard system and the sports exhaust which is a cost option, as are the stainless steel tips that you mention.

Both are made of stainless steel. I bought my car nearly six years ago with a standard exhaust and if it's not made of stainless steel as you suggest it's showing remarkable resistance to rust!

I would advise you to get written confirmation regarding your warranty and 3rd party products direct from Porsche Cars Great Britain at Reading. Reading have to authorise any warranty claims so it may be wise to get it straight from the horses mouth rather than your local PCB (whatever that is).

Here are some links to German tuning companies that manufacture that which you seek and most have a UK outlet.

Thanks for the advice. I apologise for the typo- I meant, of course, my servicing OPC ( not a PCB!)-I must have been half asleep when writing the message. The trouble is I would like to keep the car for longer than is perhaps usual and I am inclined to add modifications to suit me.In fact I have upgraded the seats from standard to sports design and had heating elements (coupled with Porsche switches) together with inflatable lumbar supports fitted by my professional car upholsterer recently which of course my OPC said was not possible. This is to compensate for a spinal problem which is slowly getting worse.I do find the blank refusal of Porsche staff to apply a little imagination sometimes a bit frustrating but I do at the same time acknowledge that they need to maintain the high level of quality of Porsche cars and equipment accordingly.(I also upgraded my stereo which they said was not possible!)I will contact the Warranty Dept. as you advise however.I must admit that I do not see what difference a Dansk silencer will make as the oxygen mix/LAMBDA sensor is not compromised-but I will seek advice.

Best of luck on your mission and welcome to the long-term ownership club.

Regarding Porsche workshop staff most of them these days hardly see a spanner as the current range servicing is virtually filters and oil across the board. I would imagine that one of the independants would be more sympathetic to your requirements and have suitably skilled staff.
