Stalling

Does anyone else have a problem with stalling when not at full temperature?

It happens when I lift off, approaching a junction and the revs simply seem to drop too low.

I have to say that it is not particularly consistent and I think it even depends on the weather.

Hi Iain
Had a similair fault on my car it would come and go after a long time found a vacuum pipe had come off the back of the intake manafold only found this when I used a mirror to check all the pipes at the back of the engine
Hope this helps

Just to make you feel bad [:D] I have never had a problem like this. I guess at least you can conclude that not all 3.2s have this problem and it sounds like something you can fix rather than having to live with it.

Iain,
Check that the idle air stabilisation valve is working properly (thats the big solenoid operated one middle formost top on the inlet system), mine was sticking and gave symptoms similar to those you describe. Just disconnect it, spray WD40 into the valve port and give it a shake till you can hear / see the valve spindle move.

Did you manage to cure the stalling? It happens to my car when it is cold. Particularly if I have not used it for a while. In that situation, because I have stalled in some difficult places, I tend to let the car run for a while to warm up before I take her out. even that does not always work. Once it has stalled and got over this, then it seems to be fine but it is always a bit worrying when I first go out.

David.

The idle bypass valve is like a "mini throttle", faster acting than the main throttle plate, and switched into life by a throttle position switch. It could be the switch faulty or minor air leaks elsewhere.
