I have recently seen far too many negative posts about Boxster reliability / engine issues in particular, so in order to balance the scale who wants to join me and say there experience to date has been wonderful [;)]

Mine started back in May 1997 and over 10 years and 5 Boxsters later the love affair continues with no troubles too report either [8D]

i totally agree with you , i think and would hope that some posts are just spoof or some people trying to scaremonger owners !! i hardly use the forum these days as if you take too much from it you will loose the enjoyment of ownership and worry all the time- you will get people that slate the newer cars because they like the older ones and vice versa . anyone that has a prestige mark of car should just drive it and love it ! i also find thers a lot of slagging off on here about opc ( porsche centres) why ?? i have been to five and all seem good experience , at the end of the day if you feel a job has not lived up to standards complain , the centres should all be of high trustworthy standard and if not let them know about it ! thanks for being positive daro 911 but i dont think your stop the negativity that easily on here but im glad to know your living the dream well and above all enjoying it !! best wishes

2006 987 2.7, now with approx. 27k miles.
No mechanical issues at all - and just starting to 'bed in' mechanically. (The people that sell their cars with only a few miles never experience just how sweet a nicely bedded-in car becomes).
A few annoying rattles in the interior - had the clear plastic wind deflector replaced under warranty to clear a major buzz/rattle but it's back again. Oh, and the wheel bolts replaced at the first service for unsightly surface corrosion on their heads.

Just thought I would add my two 'pennoth - mine might be a 996 - but same engine design and the same doom and gloom merchants are around these models too!
I love it and its just had a service with no reports of RMS leaks.
On the recent PEYT it proved outstanding on the autobahs and is a fabulous machine to own.
Would I own and older 911 - no way man, I love my comfort and relaibility!!

my 987 coupe[:D]has been fab from day 1-18 months on and it hasnt put a foot wrong and brings a smile even on dreary days!!
PERFECT

ive now been in porsche ownership for 6 months- have 2001 boxster s covered 4k miles and love it! couldnt fault it- brings a huge grin every time i start her up!

Bought a 2002 S about two years ago, done 25k miles and not a cough.

Apart from routine servicing at a small indy, I have done the brakes all round and replaced a window regulator.

The car is irreplacable.

What else would I buy for £20k and have so much fun?

Bought my 2001 S in Nov 2006 and have just completed the first year and 4000 miles. This is the best handling car I have ever owned, every drive is a smile fest and each drive finds me seeking twisty routes! I have had a Ferrari and 2 TVRs and although the S is not as quick in a straight line and hence not as much fun on track days, on a British B roads and dual carriageways with lots of roundabouts its just so good. I hope to use it more next year. For me this is an expensive luxury but if I look after it sensibly and have provision for the odd "big bill" (although its had most of the "usual suspect" jobs done) I shall continue to enjoy it. If we are all honest do we need more power to enjoy a car on our overcrowded speedtrap infested British roads?[;)]
Did 80 miles yesterday cross country, big fun and warm and comfy![:)]
There convinced myself not to sell it!![:D]

Awesome, great, brilliant...... love it!!!! Just turn the key ........ hmmmm.

It makes me smile every time! [:D]

2004 2.7 - fautless in the 13 months, 11k miles i owned it from new, only issue the OPC attitude

2005 3.2S - OPCs used this time fine for sale and service - water pump, oil pressure valve plus camshaft and one set of tappets replaced under factory warranty without issue. 20k and loving it.

The tappets were a concern at the time, but still a mino issue compared to some work i had done on previous BMWs with Nikasil failures.

Took Boxster on Trackday Friday at Brands Hatch.
Mixed with the GT's, 2S's, 4S's, ££££'s... on the track and I have to say the Boxster was -

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC !

The car performed faultlessly, brakes, etc everything solid, and the handling, controllability, and feel just amazing !
It was damp, and around the bends, especially the tight ones, the Boxster just held the line and performed comparably to the more expensive machinery. I also drove one of those Renault Williams Megane thing's and although surprised how easy they were to drive - no comparison with the Boxster !

I'm a dedicated '911ophile', but we have also had four Boxsters in the last 10 years. Currently on a 987'S' which we've had for 2 1/2 years and will keep until the 988 is introduced in three or four years time.

Each Boxster has been brilliant - no issues of any significance, but lots of pleasure and every bit a true Porsche as any of the best 911s. £ for £, probably the best Porsche you can buy.

I know many other Boxster owners and they have been, likewise, equally delighted.

Yes, there will be some duff and neglected examples, but also far too many exaggerated stories of woe. Great cars.

Havn't got a Boxster myself but I have a few mates who have them and know of several work collegues who have them so all in all I'm aware of around 15 peoples experiences of them and not one has had any problems whatsoever. Not even an RMS issue between them. Also given that Boxsters are pretty 'common' cars on our highways these days I can say I've never seen one on the side of a road broken down. The reputation of unreliability of Boxsters and 996/997's is very undeserved.

I have loved every minute of the Porsche experience with my Boxster. I bought it new in Jan 2002. It still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I keep thinking of buying a replacement 987 model but why change something that I enjoy so much?

Happy Boxtering everyone.

I had a Boxster for 2 years and have had a 996 C4 cabriolet for about 16 months. No problems with reliability.

The only problems have been with the stupidity of other road users who hit the cars [twice when stationary] and a scaffolder who dropped some metal on the 911 when it was parked, the day after it was colected following repairs from the previous fool who hit it whilst parked....

Both cars are fantastic to drive and put a smile on my face whenever I drove/drive them. No complaints about the cars.

Back in the fold and not regretting a minute of it, I used to run 944 turbos a few years ago, but had the chance to grab the porsche crest upon my bonnet again through a work scheme. Ran one through work for 2 years trouble free then moved jobs and brought a "preowned" or as it was sold "pre enjoyed" it's 50,000miles and I love it no major problems and no huge scarey bills. Thumbs up from me.
