Standard 944 exhaust

Hi, is the 944 (s2 if it makes any difference) exhaust stainless steel? Reason I ask, I got a new chrome tail piece, when in pulled the old one off the outer sleeve that the chrome piece slides onto is completely rotten and crumbled onto my driveway. The inner section that is the actual exhaust is fine, I need to find someone to make a new piece up if it's stainless but would have a crack myself if it's regular steel, think I read somewhere that they are stainless but looking for confirmation

Thanks
Stuart

Almost all factory systems on cars are made of stainless stainless steel. There is a reason for why genuine system last almost an eternity in comparison to what you pick up from the motor factors or certain stainless items (*cough* Scorpian *cough*). The grade however is not quite T304, but more like T409, allegedly a little easier to weld.

But yes, the Porsche item is a stainless jobby, and many have had tailpipes welded on as you say.
