Standard Alarm problems....

Hi all,

I couldn't open my 1997 993 this morning! It's most likely the battery in the fob but I only changed it 3 months ago and the red light was flashing.

Anyone aware of a common/known issue that I may be experiencing?

Cheers,

Al

No, but it might be worth speaking to Hamilton & Palmer. They seem to be very helpful on dealing with alarm/immobiliser issues.

Yes, noticed this with my 993 tonight, parked up, slipped into the shop for a second, i had keys with me but did'nt lock the car (car was in full view from shop), went back to car about 5 mins and it appeared to of locked itself, i tryed pressing the key fob but it did'nt appear to unlock the car, took about 5 attempts to unlock !.

I would be interested if anyone knows a likely cause ?, low battery perhaps ????.

As you might imagine, there's a fair bit about this on Rennlist.

I doubt whether or not there is only one cause for the problem but there is a sense that it is related to a poor earth on the switch next to the door hinge that operates the interior light. The car doesn't then know that the door has been opened, so the central locking reengages itself. The problem can manifest itself when the car unlocked, door opened and car started. Indeed, one Rennlister was locked out of his car with the engine still running.

This doesn't solve the battery problem though.
