Hi, A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2001 Boxster S. It has 18inch alloy wheels fitted (I have seen similar ones fitted to other Boxsters) For insurance reasons I am wondering if they a likely to be classed as Standard Wheels? Thanks Jerry

There were options in both 17 and 18 inch wheels for your car. Chances are it is one of these 'standard' 17/18 options. If you post a photo of one of them it should be easy to confirm.

Hi Here is a picture of the wheel that I am trying to establish if its classed as standard on a 2001 Boxster S.

No, those are a 'standard' boxster (1998-2004) albeit optioned wheel; they are the 18inch SportDesign wheel.

It depends on whether they were fitted at the factory (mine were, they look the same as yours) or fitted later. When I filled out my insurance application it asked whether the wheels were standard or optional, or were they retro-fitted (I can't remember the exact wording) but it seemed to imply that factory fitted option wheels were considered standard.

Well the option code is IXRL or XRL; if you check the option sticker in your handbook or the one under the front lid it should be on there. Failing that if you email or PM your VIN number I can check your list of factory options for you.

Whoops I seem to of started something here! My option code does not include IXLR or XLR the only letter in my option code is C16 (there is also 14 sets of 3 numbers)

Now just because IXLR or XLR isn't there doesn't mean they aren't 'standard' as it my be part of a option package.

Only querying the cars VIN will reveal it.

I found this site useful

I don't think my wheels were fitted when the car was new.
