Over the last few weeks I've noticed my car is getting increasing reluctant to start, as it doesn't think I've got my foot on the clutch.

This morning it took several minutes of pressing and applying various amounts of pressure to get it to turnover....What do you think clutch or electrics?

Cheers

Neil

Looking elsewhere Neil it looks like the clutch switch could be favourite. There are suggestions that you might check to see if the carpet/map has ridden up to prevent full travel of the clutch or that the switch can get dirt in it? Sounds electrical though of one description or another.

Good suggestions Alan,

I must admit to being one of those people that just press harder whilst thinking "damn thing just bloody start!" Rather than actually looking for the cause of the problem...I will check my carpets! [:D]

Cheers

You are not alone with this problem. I suspect the clutch switch on mine as I have double checked and there are no loose items near the switch. If it re-occurs much more I will have the switch swapped.

(I can hear the switch micro-switch making before the end of pedal movement so it isn't out of adjustment)

btw There are two switches on my car as it has cruise control, the first switch is the cruise one (the easiest to get too) and the other at the end of travel is the 'start interlock' and looks a real pain to get to.

I also had the switch replaced but in fact unusually needed a new starter motor. Replaced under Porsche's splendid warranty on a fairly new 997 GT3.

Did you get the 'Depress Clutch Pedal' message though ?

When I have time I will give the switch a spray with electro-lube and if that doesn't fix it will either swap the switch myself or if the job looks to hard a visit to the dealer (I believe the lower instrument cluster cowl has to be removed to gain access to the switch (the one that runs from the PCM to door under the steering column)).

Best remedy is to get yourself into a PDK! [;)]

Update, its back and it took me 20 attempts to start this morning checked the mats and they aren't fouling the clutch so its off to the OPC.

Only issue being its intermittent so probably won't do it whilst there! [8|]

Sounds like the switch is faulty/intermittent then Neil?

It does rather Alan, hopefully they can replicate it and will change the switch, fingers crossed!

Any update on this .....

I am having my clutch switch changed whilst the car is in for it's service next week.

Same thing happened on my Gen 2 Cayman S. Had several weeks of intermittent problems - turn key nothing happens, no messages on OBC, then after multiple turns it starts up like nothing wrong. OPC said diagnostics only showed fault from ignition switch so changed it under warranty. No difference until one day "Depress Clutch Pedal" appeared on OBC when trying to start - so clutch switch clearly the problem. OPC changed that, no further problems. "We get through quite a lot of those" - bit annoying that if that's the case they didn't change it first time round.
