Start Up Smoke

Hi all,
We have just purchased an 05 987 boxster S. It has done 23000 miles. If we leave the car overnight or similar, when we start it up, not always but sometimes it gives a puff and plume of white and what I think is oily smoke that wafts through the air, it does not continue to smoke its just that one horrible plume. The car is parked on our driveway which is on a slight incline so the nose is higher than the rear, not sure is this has anything to do with it. Is this normal, is it common.
The car has a warrenty so I dont want to ignore this if it is a problem.
Thanks all.

Flat 6 the oil can settle at the bottom of the barrel where it would run down in the more normal upright engine barrel.

All normal, my 2001 2.7 does it as does my mates 55 plate 2.7, keep an eye on your oil level though!

Hi, I have a 2000 3.2S and that occasionally does it. Strange but it does not use any oil either. I have checked it out and it is common. mine normally only does it when it is parked in a certain way. I also have a drive that slopes and depending on how I park determines if any smoke. !

You may have a failing air oil separator , these are about 50 pounds from your local dealer. If you know how to get into the engine bay , try disconnecting the hose that connects to the inlet plenum from the air oil separator and check for heavy oil deposits.
