starter motor queery

I only see one number listed on PET for oval dash dmber:ifferent starter ring but only one starter motor I can see. Oddly enough it has a 951 part number:

951 604 101 00

This may not be appropriate but make sure the starter is actually at fault before you change it!

All the 944's I've seen sound rough-ish when turning on the starter and the main complaint is slow turning over. Mine was terribly slow, but I sorted it by removing the starter, cleaning it's mating surface (it needs to earth through here) and all the wiring connections. Admittedly I have a new 096 battery but mine now spins over pretty fast- the previous owner was convinced a new starter was needed!
