remove the starter motor after taking off the earth terminal of the battery.
[/IMG]
Remove the locking collar deep 13mm socket
[/IMG]
Remove the clip mind you don't stab your fingers
[/IMG]
take off the solenoid link wire (make a note of which way up it is)
[/IMG]
remove the two long bolts from the casing I used two 10mm nuts locked together to undo them.
[/IMG]
[/IMG]
then pull the motor in half sun gears one part motor the other. DO NOT REMOVE THE TWO CROSS HEAD SCREWS FROM THE END OF THE MOTOR
[/IMG]
then remove the solenoid the fork and drive gear.
[/IMG]
now push the armature out of the case it will come out with the brush block still attached, you can now inspect your brushes for wear, if you now remove the two screws and the clip and thrust washers you can leave the brushes in place while you replace the end bush.
[/IMG]
if you take the end cap off before you get to this point you end up with.......... bits all over the place
[/IMG]
the end bush, mine was in bits
[/IMG]
fitting the new bush, just taps in with a rubber hammer , tap in till level with the case.
[/IMG]
discovered my fork was broken went and got a new one £4.50
[/IMG]
once the bush is replaced you can reassemble the motor in the reverse order of stripping it down, if you need to replace the brushes buy them in a Brush Block £16.00.
lubricate the sun and moon gears and the shaft and worm drive.
All done fitted with new drive gear old one in the picture.
total repair / refurb cost £30.00
