I have succesfully replaced master and slave cylinder on the 'S', but on replacing everything, the starter, alls that is ellicited on turn of the key is the load click from the solenoid.
So i have removed the starter checked to see if there were any dirt or loose connection (cleaned dried and replaced. Tryed again, no luck. removed the starter again, and wired it up direct to the battery and it worked. Put it back in the car and no.
Next step. replaced the battery. no. Sat and studied the wiring diagram to see if I have not misplaced a wire or two. Hmmmm. According to the wiring diagrams (there are a selection to choose from, but the starter is connected the same in all of them) and now there seems to be four wires in not just the two I have connected. I have studied Clarks garage manual and there is no mention of wire numbers. I bet they assume that unlike me you won't be lying in the gutter in Islington (4 times now) shoving wires out the wayto get at the slave cylinder.
My question is, does anyone recall the number of wires going in to the starter, and what the other options might be as to what I have done to the beast. I am hoping I haven't fractured a wire as I have no idea where the wires disappear off to above the bell housing and would not look forward to decifering the wiring diagram beyond the number of connections to a device. (possibly forking for a new starter is preferable, but to be avoided if it isn't going to help.)
Thanks.
Mike
