Starting After Storage

I will be storing the Caymans for the winter this year, as we have two other cars i don't need to use it.

Car has been polished and cleaned with a fuel safeguard added to the petrol.

Battery conditioner attached and is now covered in a proper dust cover.

My question is about start up.

Should I start the car once a month or leave throughout the winter and start as normal in the spring. Its the first time I have stored it.

Car will be stored in a dry garage. Car was totally dry when garaged.

Advice please.

Thanks Trevor

Any machine is best stored oiled up and the best way of oiling an engine is to run it to temp regularly, I'd suggest trying to run it on days when humidity is low and keep an eye on the brake discs, they rust with very light moisture so they can indicate the general level of humidity in the air. Only run it when you have time to get it to temp and keep it running for a few minutes after that for the water to circulate and for the temperature to soak the whole engine and cooling circuit clearing condensation on the rad's etc. Also once warmed up run the A/C for about 5 minutes to ensure the compressor seals are lubricated. Some will say run it for 30 minutes but while it is good to get the oil hot to remove any water that was more of a concern with mineral oils and the oil will get hot as quickly as the water or very closely, you will have noticed when driving at what point the car feels fully warmed through so it's down to your judgement as to how long you feel it needs. While warming up give it some revs to run the pumps through their range, splash oil about etc no load on of course but do exercise the clutch to ensure the splines remain free you don't want any vapour to cause them to rust and sieze the clutch. Any misfiring is likely to be damp in the coil packs so you need to be sure they get warm enough to thoroughly dry out.
