Starting damp issues on my new Porsche..

Hello all. Just before Christmas we picked up an '85 3.2 for my wife to use.. We're going to a (body only) '73 RSR conversion next year.
It poured down the other night and the morning after the damn thing wouldn't start. Not for me.. or the AA man. In fact it took him 2 hours to get it going and he had no idea what it was in the end.
Has anyone else had problems starting after a downpour? I've had alarm issues on the other 3.2, but's alway started OK.

I'm sure this behaviour is more typical of a 73 RSR, it looks as though you are part of the way towards your dream already!

TC, you are so cheeky. But I agree; don't do it LOL

Ashrolfe, assuming your AA man checked for air, fuel and spark, and found all three, did you check whether the car was wet or damp under the seats by the ECU? One of our guys had a prob with water ingress earlier in the year where the ECU was getting wet and immobilising the car. Just on the off-chance; you never know. Also check for anything less than a mega connection from fusebox to fuel pump - decrepitude in the fuses there can cause intermittent starting problems. This problem experienced on my car and a few others I know.
 
As for the fuses in these cars, throw them away and replace them even if they look OK. I paid someone a lot of £££ for them to discover the fuses need to be changed despite them testing and looking OK.
 
Excellent - thanks for the advice guys.. We checked the ECU and fuses and they seemed OK. I'll replace all the fuses and get the nice chaps at Jaz to look into it. As for the conversion, I'm comitted I'm afraid.. I've promised my Cannonball 8000 sponsors that I'll be driving in a lovely orange RSR!

I had a similar problem on my 3.2 and it was down to the Ignition leads

A mate of mine had a 3.2 Targa and in the end he had to bag up the equipment under neath the seats like all the electrics etc as thw water was getting in the roof and it was creating shorts within the car so maybe check under yourt seats for wetness to start with.

Thanks for your help guys. In the end, it turned out to be dodgy HT leads along with the fuel inlet valve or something. Jaz have sorted it all out. I'll post the pics when the conversion is done - it won't be for a few months yet though.

Just picked her up, and she starts like a new car now! Steve and the rest of the guys at Jaz are great, but they had to do a load of stuff on the car to get all sorted out.. Very expensive. That's the last time I buy a cheap Porsche withiout having it checked out first!
