Hi guys. i have a problem starting my car.
I'v just been to wales for a week and a half and my car was running perfect before, but i have just got in it and it wont start or anything.
The battery is ok as it is virtually brand new and i can see the green dot on top. all the electrics work fine in the car, lights/ radio etc but it just wont start.
i dont even hear the fuel pump running.
i have an imobiliser fitted, could it be that?
any ideas would be great as i have got it booked in for an mot next saturday, hopefully.

Cheers guys, Chris.

It's a common problem thats's down to a faulty DME (Fual Pump) Rely. I'm not sure were your fuse box is on a 924 have a look in the manual and locate the DME rely, it's probably that. It's about £20 or so from Porsche or you can mail order it from www.porscheshop.co.uk If it's not that it'll be your immobiliser.

Is this the same 1980 that you posted a few questions about recently? If so this 924 (the two litre) does not have the dreaded dme relay, so don't look for it. From stopped, the fuel pump will not run until the starter is operated; there seems to be an inhibitor on the relay switching circuit which traces back to the rh coil terminal, which, never having been contradicted or otherwise informed leads me to believe that a chip in the relay somehow detects voltage drop across the coil, and if it doesnt, it will not run. If you stall the engine, the pump will stop. If the ignition is on, HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? Go here

ok guys thanks for that. yes it is the same car i was on about. i shall have a look at the relay later and see if i can find anything.

OK guys i have found the problem, beleive it or not but it is my new starter switch, strange i know, so all iv gotta do now is order a new one (again).
but i did also notice that inside the fuel pump relay is some white powder, looks like dried water to me, so i shall replace that aswell.
it just annoys me when things like this happen at the worst of times, oh well. such is life.

Have you checked that you're not getting water down onto the relays via corrosion under the battery?

NO i dont think so, i shall re check again. unless there was a water leak, but was fixed by the previouse owner.
