Starting Problems

Just got back from holiday and the car fails to start. I turn the ignition and all the dash lights come on. I turn slightly further and all I get is a "click". The engine doesn't even turn over. I try a few more time and the alarm (Cobra) starts beeping at me and eventually decides to go off annoying the neighbours.

The car hasn't been used for almost 3 weeks apart from a short trip so I am thinking flat battery. So I attach jump leads to girlfriends car and try again. Exactly the same response - just a click and nothing else. So whilst the battery may be flat, clearly something else is amiss too. Possibly the immobiliser?

I am going to buy a DME relay anyway (a spare is always useful if the other one is fine) - but from what I have read on other posts I would expect the car to crank but not fire if the relay was duff.

Any help/ideas of where to start looking would be appreciated.

Many thanks
