Hi,
When starting my car it cranks slowly twice before starting (like its having diffuculty starting). I dont like this, How can Improve this so it starts almost instantly (like my 911's did)
Is this a normal characteristic?

PS I thought the new Bosh battery would have improved this!

Hmm wonder why...

Maybe due to the length of the battery cables, as its in the boot.

However my Merc has the same layout with no probs.

The engine may have to rotate up to two revolutions so the engine management can read the timing sensors before being able to calculate the ignition & injection timing.
 
Plus those are big old pistons you are turning over!
It could be to build compression first too. They do all seem to do it though.

"S2's WILL take a few turns to start, this is normal and is SAFE.
There is an inhibitor which allows the engine a few revolutions before it fires, this is to protect and allow some of the oil to flow before the engine kicks off."

This is exactly the reason I was given by the local specialist - could help explain the long life expectancy of the engines.
 
Yep totally normal for S2's

Rob Holmes (a West Mids member) once did some research and came up with a specific rpm that the crank has to reach before the DME will start firing the ingnition. Dunno what that figure was though [&:]
