Silent for 1/2 hr or so, then triggers []

Checked windows up, sunroof shut, doors bonnet and boot all tightly shut.

It is a little windy.......what can I do? HELP!

PS - No scrotes at it!

Probably related to your new HU. Check for a wire to the cage. My alarm went mad when I swapped mine and the tecchie I use traced it to that. They have a sensor for the stereo being removed.

Here's the only thing I know about the alarm system [&:]

Clean the contacts for the door switches (they are stamped VW [:D]). Mine used to be a bit temperamental and after cleaning these because of problems with the internal lights the alarm was fine. I am only guessing that a bad contact makes the alarm think the door is open - I don't know [&:]

fen - not fitted the new head unit yet, so I'll strike that off as "unlikely" [;)]

It's been doing it again today and there's no wind now.... []

Will have a look at door switches......

Anyone know what the inputs are?

Just doors, or boot & bonnet too?

And can it be disabled? [&o]

The sensor unit is located near the battery and has a sensitivity adjusment on it, could it be too sensitive?
Tony

Hi Tony,
Just reading this post and I have a very similar problem with false alarms, the ultra-sonics seem too sensitive. I've had a root round in the boot near the battery for a 'control box' but can't find anything. I have an 1989 2.7, can you elaborate on it's position?

many thanks for any help.

Daz.

It 'should' be towards the front of the car, stuck on the inside of the rear wheel arch. It could have dropped down between the battery and the arch, its surprising how far down it goes [&:]

I am reliably informed by an alarm installer that a lot of false alarms are caused by a dodgy battery. EG fit new battery=no false alarms.

Mine was down betwixt battery and wheel arch.

Couldn't find any sensitivity adjust, but opened the unit up and it was damp. Dried it out ~ no probs since [:)]

the control unit is usually stuck on the panel behind the side trim in the trunk above the battery, the gubbings for the ESR is behind this panel also.

Its double sided taped on some cars thats why it hangs down because the tape gives up!

Thanks for the response.
I've recently had a new battery, this didn't change the false alarms.
I'll pull the boot carpet out and locate the control box tomorrow and see what state it's in.

Thanks again.
Daz.

Found the box, it was as described stuck with DST to the wheel arch.
The adjuster was fully clockwise. set it to mid way.
I have now noticed that when sat in the car with all door shut and no key in, there used to be a relay chattering away under the passenger footwell. This constant chattering has now stopped. Must be the ultrasonic detecter in the alarm control box.

Lets see how it goes.

Cheers
Daz.

Here's a pic of mine. (1989 2.7 944)
