Steel v air suspension

I know the air can do great tricks, learned from a visit to the Army proving ground and last year's PCGB at Brands but does anyone have views on the difference in normal driving conditions? My current Cayenne has standard suspension but have found it a bit bouncy, particularly in the back. Not uncomfortably so but does the air option make a noticeable difference?

I have a MKII RR on air and apart from the ability to lower it to help get the "ancients" in and out of it, it dosen't ride or handle as well as my old Disco on steel.
Perhaps Porsche do the job better, I havn't had chance for a test drive yet and am still bulking at having another vehicle that does less than 20mpg!.
We may look at a new Freelanded diesel as Mrs's daily drive.

Air suspension is a no brainer on the Cayenne, other than a better ride you have the different settings which other than lower and stiffen the suspension also change the engine mapping to be more responsive in sport.

I just love how it transforms the car depending on what mood I am in and where I am driving the beast[:D]

Does the air asupension really change throttle mappings ???? I have never noticed it on mine

When I put it in sport there is a definite difference in how the throttle responds.

Interesting .. I have never noticed a differance (but I have a lowley V6) ...

FWIW - The Configurator says that Air Suspensions offers "Fully load-bearing air-spring struts with integrated dampers for manual/automatic selection of five/six ride-height settings; self-levelling; electronically variable damper system offering continuous and active adjustment of damper force based on three manually selectable setup options (Comfort/Normal/Sport); includes air-compressor system in passenger compartment for emergency tyre inflation (replaces standard electric air compressor)"

The Cayenne training manual(s) at https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/index.jsp also mentions nothing re changing the tip modes due to Supsension settings

I wonder if the Tip is adapting to your more "sporty" driving style when your car is in Sport Suspension mode ?

It could be, but as I say the car responds differently between sport and comfort or normal, all I know is that I love the car especially after the 993 which I was finding very hard to replace[:)]
 
My car has regular springs,wish i would have specified air suspension,when i give people a lift anywhere i suddenly become aware of how hard the suspension is (especially in the rear),also sometimes when i have my young family in the back,next time i will deffo tick the air suspension box.Will be keeping this one for a little while yet though.
