Steering adjustment?

When sitting in the car and wiggling the steering wheel to and from, there is slight play of 1 to 2 mm noticeable.

I have had a look in the engine and it seems that the shaft is not the issue, as it does not display this play.

Which I presume would mean an issue with the steering rack. Is there some sort of adjustment on the steering rack, which could get rid of this play? Or is it new steering rack time?

Have you checked the UJ at the top of the steering shaft just behind the engine? There is a bushing in there that due to its proximity to the exhaust dries out and wears over time

I will have a look Paul, but my car is a lefty and not a righty, so the exhaust is far away [;)]

However this could still be the issue.

Checked ysterday, and indeed it seems to be the UJ's.

Had a quick look on the web, and it seems that the shaft with a UJ on each side is no longer available new.

So how does one fix this issue?

Also worth checking that your steering wheel isn't loose on the hub - mine was and it confused the hell out of me for a day!
