Steering Column Bushes?

I'm going through the process of re-bushing my car. So far, I've done all the suspension bushes, bar the torsion tube bushes.

Soon, I'll be getting new top mounts, steering column shaft, torsion tube bushes and spring plate bushes fitted.

My car has done 90K - is it worth replacing the steering column bushes? (part 16 and 17 in the diagram below) They're only just over a fiver each.

Do they actually wear on the 944/68, or would it be a waste of time?

Cheers,

I'd say yes. I'd made a mental note of these:

just in case there ever was a day when I was in there doing something else. In anycase rubber bushes have a shelf life so you might as well - they get contaminated with oil and PAS fluid so will be way past their best. With things like this even tough you may not feel a night and day difference I prefer the piece of mind that I know they would have been replaced.

Cheers Scott - good point regarding oil and PAS fluid. Didn't think of that.

The Delrin ones are probably a bit too expensive to justify themselves - once you've paid import duty and tax, it'll probably be over £100 for two!

You have to draw the line somewhere with these things, especially when the oem bushes are just over a fiver each...

Yes, they do work out quite pricey. I do seem to remember they did a much much cheaper version, not Delrin, but they had strengthened shoulders as apparently the rack can slide sideways a bit under initial turn in and the stiffened shoulders prevented that lateral movement. I couldn't find that part in their listing. I suppose the Delrin ones are a more expensive version.
