Steering fluid hose leak.

Pastry

Seems I have a slow leak from the hoses under the steering fluid reservoir, nothing major but looks like the hoses could do with replacing as the clips are pretty tight already.

I'm debating doing it myself as from the clarks guide here it seems fairly simple if a little fiddly.

Anyone done this before? any tips appreciated including where to get replacement hose from as I'm not sure on the pressure requirements.

I have replaced to power steering hoses on a couple of cars, including the cooler pipes as well. It is a bit time consuming and a little fiddly at times but certainly not that difficult to do. It is while since I have done them so can't remember anything that you particularly need to keep in mind but I seem to think it took a good couple of hours to do.

After seeing the hoses are custom parts and arent that cheap I've moved the clips up the pipe about 1.5mm to squeeze 'previously unsqueezed' hose and and I'll keep an eye on it until I have to fork out ;)

Thread resurrect again.

Pastry, how did you get on with moving your clips? I have a similar leak and am trying to find the source, but everything that's visible in the engine bay is dry, so it must be leaking from elsewhere I think

Does anybody know is there are some key failure points in the power steering system? Is it likely to be corroded/damaged pipes rather than say a leak at the pump itself?

Thanks

James

the pump itself can leak - and can be rebuilt with a new gasket set.

It's had to track down p/s leaks because the stuff goes everywhere!

It fixed the problem, the fluid was seeping down one of the hoses under the reservoir and was all over the place on the left of the engine bay near the heatshield so doesnt look like the same problem you have. Sorry I cant be anymore help.
