steering handling woes...

At the straight ahead position at about 70mph+ my steering feels loose and dead with about 1-2cm of play.

As the speed increases it seems to get worse with wheel movements of 5cm or 1/2 inch either side just producing a very dull wiggle in response. At high speed the wheel seems to gently oscilate/rock in my fingers with me having to input lots of little adjustments.

This is quite unnerving as once past this amount of turn is feels unstable esp at higher speeds. I was out for a Sunday blast at the weekend and the car didn't feel planted at all, turn in to corners was lazy and the car seemed to float and feel disconnected when traveling at speed.

I really had no confidence when going into bends at speed, but at lower speeds it feels fine?
 
Thing is the roads round here are shocking!

I was at Silverstone on Thursday and the C2S I drove there was a different car handling/feel wise. I commented on it the moment I turned the wheel to the instructor, I asked to do a back to back test on the course but they said insurance was a problem.

TBH its been a bit like this from the get go buts its getting worse and really spoilt the day out on Sunday [:eek:]
 
Well if you're within striking distance of Tamworth I'd suggest you get to CG PDQ![;)] Chris F will soon tell you what's going on. I think if there's too much toe out you will get that wandering feeling. I took my Gen 2 to Chris after 2k miles and all four wheels were pointing in a slightly different direction and the adjustments he made transformed the car. I'm sure many others on here have a similar story to tell.
 
Another vote for Chris...the man will transform your car and is worth every penny...you will learn a lot as well, as he is more than happy to talk you through the work as he does it.
 
On a scale of 1 to 10 to resolve handling issues, in my humble opinion and experience...

Dealer = 2
Porsche Specialist (Parr/JZM/etc) = 8
Chris Franklin = 10

...unless you have actually broken something on the car, then I'd head for a dealer.

Well if it's parts that need replacing under warranty it's obviously a dealer visit. However, if it's adjustment or to find out what the problem really is then yes, Chris F is your man. He's a very busy chappie so if you are going down that route I suggest you speak to him sooner rather than later. If you tell him how bad it is (as in dangerous!) he might give you an emergency appointment! Worth a phone call at the very least?
 
Thanks Alex/Alan, what I might do is take it to the dealer and if they come back with there's nothing wrong I will take to CG

If the dealer says it only needs a 4 wheel alignment then I would say "Cheers" and tootle off to CG! If the dealer says parts needed, get them to fit (they will do an alignment as a matter of course) and then tootle off to CG to have it done properly! Trust us, it will transform your car![;)]
 
Yup!

The reason for this is the OPC uses big +/- ranges for each independent wheel. Chris will use at most +/- 1 for each value and make sure they are all relative.

The difference is running in welly-boots vs trainers...
 
The dealer will set the car to standard, if your after more of a certain feel then CG or the likes is the answer...

Chris did mine and I'm still really pleased with the results...
I asked for a tweak for quick A road..
