STEERING JOINT

Hi guys, ive been advised that the bottom knuckle on my steering joint has some slight play in it, how difficult is this to change please ? fairly straightforward ?, cheers, Jinxy

Looking at your picture, it looks like yours is a Lux ?

Process is similar for all of the cars but probably easier on the lux as I don't think they have the little heat shields over the UJ's at either end:

1. Jack the car up and put on axle stands at the front so there's no weight on the front wheels
2. Undo 4 x 13mm bolts that hold the steering rack to the cross member so the rack is loose
3. Undo and remove the 2 x 13mm pinch bolts with lock nuts at the top and bottom joints
4. wriggle the shaft around and remove from the steering shaft at the top and rack at the bottom - if the shaft has been on the car for sometime it may take some persuasion.
5. Refit new shaft - tighten up all the bolts and ensure you replace the 2 x 13mm pinch bolts, then the 4 x 13mm rack to crossmember bolts = job done !

Cheers Chris, that's excellent advice, just what I needed, I think I can manage that as im not too bad with spanners etc, its the more involved jobs im not to comfortable with yet on these cars, many thanks again, Tony
