When the steering wheel is turned a grinding noise appears, i have checked the fluid for the power steering pump which seems to be OK. I know that it is a common problem on full lock but this happening just moving the car out of the garage. The car has standard 16" wheels.

Any idears

Thanks

Mal

Where's the noise coming from? Did you have any movement on the steering wheel at all?

Rob

Hi Rob,
Thanks again for responding, the noise comes from the engine bay, the noise happens only when you move the steering wheel either right or left.

OS rear? if so this is where the power steering pump is.

I had the same on mine last week but I had no fluid due to a pipe coming loose. Sounds as if you need to check for leaks or bleed the system. I think you do this by removing the resevoir cap and turning the steering wheel side to side but I'm not 100% sure.

Fluid should be reddish in colour not black like mine was.

Let us know

Rob

I had this when I first bought the car, the PAS just needed topping up and bleeding which cured the noise !

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the note, did you bleed the system yourself if so how or did you get it done.

Fluid level appears to be OK.

Hi Rob,

Fluid level looks OK and red in colour, though not sure how to bleed system or if this will cure problem.

Mal,

To bleed the system you need to turn the steering from lock to lock with the cap removed from what I can recall. I am sure the other guys on here will tell me if I am wrong!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for info, I have tried bleeding the system as described, but still keep getting air bubles come through the system. It does not appear to be loosing any fluid but air must be getting into the system some where any idears.

Mal,

Sorry out of my depth here with that one.

You could try searching on the renlist forums or ask the question there
