Steering problem

I have an 86 944, with 17" 911 wheels on it, and i ged very bas feedback when going over any bumps, the steering shakes badly, the bigger the bump, the more it shakes. is this because of the wheels? its there a solution, som sort of steering stabaliser? anybody else experience the same?

+1 .............You ought to check your track rod ends too. Jack one front wheel and holding it 3am and 9pm give the wheel a good hard wiggle . Any clonks or knocks would indicate that your trackrod ends are shot or your steering rack ball joint/s are shot or possibly the steering rack needs adjustment . If they are all ok I would check your front tracking next . Are you getting bump-steer at all when going over big bumps ?ORIGINAL: pauljmcnulty What Riverside said, just to add that the cars are very sensitive to tyre pressures and geometery. A proper 4-wheel alignment by an experienced expert can transform the car, and would be a good idea after fitting the 968 castor mounts.
