STEERING PUMP REMOVAL "HELP"

To change the oil pressure sender unit on my turbo I have to disconnect the power steering pump.......

I have looked in the factory manual, Haynes, Clarks and the PET

I still can not get the pump off.

I have removed the adjuster, rear bolt with large bush and front nut.

The pump slides back, but not enough to get the front stud clear of the hole.

Any suggestions please.

From memory i think you just need to knock out the insert because the long bolt actually comes away thru the gap or cut out in the mounting point

ie the pump mounting bracket holes which the long bolt goes thru is not complete, there is a gap that allows you to pull the bolt out vertically, once you have knocked out the insert. (its been a whicle since i did this) drop me an EMail if you still have difficulty and I'll take a look at mine.

Sometimes its not easy to find the words to describe technical matters!!!

I think I know what you mean, Is it the front lug that has a slot in it?

I did think of this when I removed the nut, I did look at the insert at the front of the slot and give it a tap with a drift.
When it did not move I looked at the parts catalogue, as I could not find the insert listed I assumed It was part of the casting.

I will soak it in penatrating oil tomorrow, if it does not come out I will post a picture.

Last time I did this it just came off, but it was nearly 2 years ago, so I might have forgotten something!

I think Andy is right, and there could be a cut out that helps get it off. I'm going to be rebuilding mine on this car this weekend so if your still stuck I might be able to help then.
 
The problem.....

Is the part that the front thread goes through (green arrow) part of the casting? or an insert that needs to come out to get the pump off?

If its an insert, spacer or bush it is not shown in the parts catalogue and wont move!

Looks like part of the casting but difficult to tell, If it is the casting how can I get the pump off as when I slide the pump back the end of the thread is still in the hole?

Just noticed in PET that from 89 there was a sleeve fitted in the front.......more confussed than ever......do I get the big hammer out?

So, that is the bush that is stopping you removing the pump. Once the oil has had a chance to work, try and drift it out.

Drift and bigger hammer did the job, it was solid.

Not a bad job when you get the pump free and then make a short spanner to fit the pressure sensor[:'(]

Cleaned that pesky bush and used copperslip on it.

I know have a working oil pressure gauge[:D]

and a bit more knowedge[8|]

Did this exact job a couple of weeks ago whilst doing a miriad of other bits and pieces. Every thing went back together fine nothing left over....... except one bolt, covered in steering pump oil and matching the bolt that holds the pump belt adjuster in place. Cannot find where on earth I took it out from and suspect that I will be finding out expensively when something comes adrift and bounces down the motorway. Worrying, but I really am stumped.... I have placed it on the mantle piece (next to a bent valve, from a timing belt misadventure) in the hopes that staring at it will jog my memory.
