I suggest some driver training in a safe environment (eg bruntingthorpe, carlimits.com etc) to familiarise yourself with the car and possibly ask someone more experienced to drive the car so you can decide what improvements can be made to the car, and what skills you need to improve to avoid a life changing experience when you run out of talent on the road.

In order you should have your batwing undertray connected to bumper, then a plastic middle tray and then finally the aluminium tray.
Over the years I have seen countless turbo's with trays missing, and most commonly the ali one. If you see one they have fins at the sides and are designed to help airflow and keep the front end planted.
Check you have all your trays present. The ali ones are hard to find, took me a while to track one down. I think they are still available from OPC for round about £90 and there is currently one on ebay for £45 posted.

Wheels in Motion said no problem to do the wheel alignment and the maximum price for a 944 will be about £130+VAT. Not too bad
Then I called Centre of Gravity. They asked for the symptoms and said that from my description they would guess that after so many years of use and putting pedal to the metal probably the back of the car is slightly lower than the front. they offered to do a whole 10 hours set up of the car, adjusting every possible bit that can be adjusted and putting it perfect as it should be. they asked for £470+VAT. They said doing wheel alignment won't solve the issue
so i have a choice between something reasonably priced that might not solve the issue and something expensive that might not be necessary
any thoughts?

You will not regret it
I never had handling issues though a trip to C of G with Chris Franklyn no doubt will transform the car.
