steering rack leaking- help needed!

hi guys,
I know I was meant to get some pics up but I've been busy playing.and I've got a bit of a strop on! the shine of the Carrera S has gone a bit since finding out that the steering rack (amongst other things) is leaking and needs replacing/reconditioning/remanufacturing. the replace option is way to pricey (2 grand from porsche, + vat!), recon from 200 to 500 notes and remanufacturing about a grand.
obviously I'm thinking of recon or remanufacture, but its recon a false economy?
can anyone shed a little light on the matter for me, has anyone done this that could give me a little advice?
