Steering rack needs replacing-advise please!

Hi guys. As you may recall, got my first Porsche two weeks ago now. The previous owner advised me the steering was heavy due to a leak, and ive confirmed his suspicions this week by getting it examined. It is leaking from the seal behind the UJ to steering wheel, and pouring out of one end of the rack..which had split. Did try running it on stop leak, and changed damaged rack gaitor, but just filled up with fluid and pissed all over the drive way. I guess it's new rack time. Is there anywhere i can get a cheap reconditioned unit. Ive been quoted £300 quid for a replacement :(

Pelican list a seal set to refurb the rack yourself, complete with instructions. Otherwise it is a round of the usual subjects. I have had a somewhat checkered history in the past on a variety of non-Pork motors, some barely managing one MOT to another! I reckon if I needed another I would do it myself.

Try Promax motorsport for a seal kit if you are practical, They had kits in stock when I got some bits recently, 20 or 30 quid.
I think the rebuild instructions are on Clarkes Garage website, but some-one here will know.
good luck
George
