Steering rack recon on eBay

Hi, just about to tackle the first job on my 944. Thanks for all the advice in my previous "considering buying a 944" thread. I test drove a good few and decided on an 87 turbo from the forum. Thanks James! Great meeting you and I promise she will continue to be looked after.

Anyway, first job is the steering rack. Has anyone fitted a recon unit from western power steering? They seem very reasonable at £175 but I don't want to skimp on such an important component. Has anyone used them?

Hi Craig,

Thought my reconditioned rack was from Western Power Steering but after checking it's from Kelly Bray Steering Racks who are also on ebay. Think it was £225 delivered and they collected the original rack. Was fitted in summer of 2008 and 3 years on it's working fine. Another option for you perhaps.

I hope you enjoy the car Craig, and good job on doing the steering rack yourself. I don't have any suggestions on sourcing a refurb'ed rack though unfortunately.
