Steering Rack - repair or replace?

My car has a leak from the steering rack and JZM are recommending a replacement (and I'm not querying their advice). The question is, do I get a replacement (£1500 or so) or get the current one reconditioned (Porscheshop quote about £345)? Anyone got any experience of the recon units?

thanks

Remember Vic C replacing this on his car before I bought it from him 5 years or so ago. Wasn't far off the price you have been quoted for a new unit even then. Of no relevance really apart from inflation / suppy & demand don't seem to have hit the prices as hard as one might expect.

Get it serviced,i have a contact for it,around £180.I have had three done over the years,rs,cup and GT2.
Dont touch Porsche Shop,i would not be able to sleep at night if i had something on my car that they supplied.
Let me know if you want the contact details.

I have tried ' reconditioned ' racks before from different sources and they either have started leaking after a few months and or worse have started to seize up . On any safety critical part I will only fit original Porsche .

What is the issue with the rack? If it is just leaking then refurbs should be fine. Use a reputable company and you shouldn't have an issue.

I have not needed one on the RS but on other vehicles have used a company in london to good effect.

Going to go with Paul's suggestion. The car's being SORNed at the end of the month, so plenty of time to strip out the rack and send it off for rebuilding.
