I have the leaking rack issue on my C4 and ordered a reconditioned rack from a well known supplier. The rack they sent is for a 964 (Part number 964 347 009 02) and when I spoke to them today they advised (after some checking) that the 964 rack is the same as the 993 rack except that the wheel to wheel lock is slightly lower.
This, they reasoned is why the 993 RS uses the 964 rack rather than the 993 rack, i.e. to allow quicker turn in. They assured me that in all other respects they are identical. If this is the only difference the only issue I can see with fitting this to my car is that high speed driving will need a bit more concentration as moving the steering wheel will result in the road wheels turning in or out more than they would with a 993 rack. I don't really see that as being a major issue and could live with that.
My question is, is this the case or is there something I am missing here?
The car is lhd and this is the only reconditioned rack I have managed to locate. The only other option is to remove my rack and send it for reconditioning, which I don't really want to do
