Steering Wheel Change

Just bought a new OE 968 CS Wheel.

Does anyone know the torque settings when changing the wheel for the central Nut.

I am guessing it is as easy as that to change it?

Cheers
Lee

Clarks Garage says 45Nm:

Installation

  1. Slide the steering wheel on to the steering column paying attention to the alignment marks made during removal.
  2. Install the wheel retaining nut and torque to 45 Nm (33 ft-lbs).
  3. For non-airbag cars attach the horn button wire to the horn button pad and press the pad into place on the steering wheel.
  4. For airbag equipped cars, attach the wire to the back of the airbag, slide it into the steering wheel, and attach by installing the two Torx head screws (T30).
  5. Standing outside the car reach into the car and turn the ignition on. The reason for being outside the car is that this is one of the times I've seen airbags inadvertently deploy. Start the car and see if the airbag warning light is illuminated. If it is, reset the warning light using ELECT-12.

Have you had the original wheel off?

Not difficult, but removing the horn pad demands a leap of faith ~ just use your fingers to prise it directly off ~ you have to exert a fair bit of force and it feels wrong but isn't. [&:] From memory there are two "pop-on" features at the lower outer corners and one in the upper middle (but don't quote me on that).

That sounds about right (pop-ons). It's the way the vinyl wrinkles as it bends when you pull it that got me worried first time.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

provided the nut on the steering wheel is too tricky, it's very straight forward. 24mm deep socket, lock the steering undo the nut most of the way. Bash steering wheel either side to loosen.

Do NOT.... pull the steering wheel with a lot of force without leaving the nut on, all that can happen is the wheel will fly off and smash your nose !

Reinstall replacement wheel, after connecting horn push, line up splines tighten nut to appropriate spec (not sure ?? ) but always done mine up reasonably tight ~ 40lbft torque, good shove with a standard 1/2" ratchet drive

Good luck,

Chris
