steering wheel height ?

i am loving my 2007 9974S but being rather height impared i find it easier to drive if i have the seat set at it's highest setting. however i find what ever position i set the steering wheel at, when ever i use the brake my right knee hits the steering wheel height adjustment lever [:mad:]

it helps if i drop the seat a bit but, then i loose sight of the nose of the car & the sunvisors are useless to me [:eek:]



problem wouldn't occure if the lever folded away.
 
I thought it was flush??
I've never caught it and like you Helen (well Okay not that small [;)]) I'm not the tallest of people...

Hello Helen,
To effectively lower the front edge of squab, which appears to be the underlying problem, I have raised my seat runner by placing a 1 inch square tube spacer under the back of each runner,the steel spacers are drilled through to accept longer allen key headed bolts as hex.headed bolts would be impossible to get to. This has made the seat much more comfortable with less pressure under the back of thighs, and allows a straighter leg driving position.

you might have the answer there. i had to have small wedges fitted under the runners of the drivers seat of my 1968 911S as i couldn't see over the steering wheel. theres no height adjustment for either the seat or the steering wheel on the Pre 1973 cars.

had no problems in my 993. heres a picture of me in it's driving seat and it sort of shows you my problem. if you notice where my right knee is. that is just where the lever hangs down on my 997 [:-]

Are you sure the lever is in the right position Helen? I don't think it should be "hanging down". On the other hand it could be the shoes.............[:D]

[&:] I wouldn't want to be kicked in the hanging bit by them shoes!!! [:(]

I'll check mine tomorrow Helen and report back, but I'm pretty sure it should be locked flush..

It should be locked flush against the underside of the steering column.

A solid spacer is a safer bet than tube in the event of an accident - just a thought. [;)]

just been into OPC Leicester to have a nose. (was thinking of buying some Fuchs) and noticed all the Gen 1 997 & Boxsters have the same L-shapped lever under the steering wheel. it dosn't fold away.
I could not see a lever on the new cars,( 997,Panamera, Cayenne or Boxsters) so i presume they are tucked away flush with the steering colume.


umm think i might have to think about trading up [:-] as it's very irritating having to live with a brused knee.
 
That's really odd. I don't remember the lever sticking down on my Gen 1? Could try these as a cheaper option to trading up though [:D]

I took a look and see what Helen is on about- although it was a good 4 inches clear on my knees [&:]
The locking lever does protrude about an 3cm below th sterring wheel casing in order for you to access it- it does lay parellel with the sterring wheel casing.
I don't know what to suggest Helen(apart from TScaptain suggestion) as the 997 has more leg room than any other 911 previous.

think i have it sussed.

i need to slightly tip the front of the seat down while keeping the back of the seat high. is that possable on a 997 ? mines not got electric seats.


or will i have to resort to using a cushion [:eek:]
 
Raising the back of the seat runners would certainly aid Helen's view of the road, it will also reduce the bucket seat effect of the squab.

The tube used Clive was of 1 x one eight inch heavy gauge steel filed to an angle on one side to achive a firm fit. I had no problem on my previous car a 996 4s as it had more adjustment with memory seats.
