Steering Wheel Help...

New member
I have got a 993RS steering wheel which I intend to fit in the 964, as the original RS steering wheel is a little worn and I want to restore it.

My question is how do I remove the original wheel so I can fit the new one. In particular I am struggling to remove the centre panel which is the horn, and I also want to know what the wheel bolt should be torqued up to when refitting the new wheel.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

Thanks

Ollie

Having replaced the standard RS wheel with a MOMO.

IIRC -
1. The centre piece just needs a good pull to unclip it.
2. The wheel bolt should be torqued to 50 lbs.

I'll check tonight unless someone confirms/denies the above.

In Streather's 964 Companion, he mentions a tightening torque of 33lb ft for the steering wheel nut, but this was for an airbag fitted model.

At the end of the day however, you don't want the steering wheel coming off, so I'd go with the higher figure.
