Can someone give a step by step on this process..... I've had a go but don't have the courage to just keep pulling ..... and the horn just keeps sounding.. so which of the fuses under the front is the horn on..??

Cheers Db

Disconnect the earth on the battery and once you have removed the steering wheel nut give the wheel a good heave - try to keep it straight so you know which way to put it back on.

This is a good tip
As recommended disconnect battery
Straighten wheel and with wheel straight ahead tippex a mark at 12 o'clock on the spline after you have removed the nut.. This way if during removal the spline moves you can realign the wheel easily to straight ahead.
It does need a good pull.

Hi thanks..but the wheel won't just come off.. how do I get at the wheel nut.... I thought it would be under the rectangular horn push.. but I just can't see how to attack it.

Once you have taken the horn push off you need to use an extended 27mm socket wrench. If I remember correctly, I had to use an extension on top of the extension that came with my set (there probably is a standard one in the right size available)

The wheel nut takes a bit of effort to get off, as does the wheel once the nut is removed. Remember to take Mikes advice and use a bit of tippex to help you align the steering wheel when putting it back on.

Are you putting an aftermarket steering wheel on?

Hi gents.. sorry...I haven't got the horn push off!!! I've given it a really good wrenching but it won't move... Is it secured in any way or do I just have to be brutal with it. I would like to keep it for the sake of origionallity...

And yes i am fitting a nardi wheel c/w boss kit.

Cheers Db

You really do have to be brutal to the point of feeling like it's going to break to get it off. It's held on with 3 (I think) springs that engage in pillars. Keep pulling, it won't break and it will come off (eventually). If it's any compensation, once it's been off the first time it seems to be easier in future (or maybe that's just because you're not so scared of destroying it once you know what to do).

Also, IIRC it's a 24mm socket, not 27? Can't be certain, but I thought it was 27 when I first tried and it was 24mm (but I may be wrong, and I am talking about a 924S [&:] )

hope that helps, Phil
