Steering Wheel with "buttons"

Hi

I still have the original "PDK button" steering wheel from my 2009 Carrera S Gen II Cabrio. Not long after purchase I swopped this out for the paddle shift wheel. I have tried selling the button wheel on E Bay, although not via the 'for sale" section of the club forum. I am not sure there is much demand for these wheels, why would there be I hear you say.

Naturally the centre section containing the air bag was transferred to the new wheel. Rather than just see it consigned to the back of a shelf in my garage, where it will serve no purpose other than to add to the general clutter and detritus we all collect, I though I might add it to the wall of my games/TV room. To do so I need a new boss but at over £800 I am not going to purchase a new air bag etc.

Do any of you most knowledgeable members know if I can get just the cover rather than the entire unit, hopefully at a reasonable price. I thought I might get one from a scrap merchant but, so far, have not been able to track one down. Ideally it would be black to match the leather rim.

As I do not have any access to a parts catalogue or website any thoughts would be most welcome!

Thanks

Peter,

Can't help with the steering wheel components, but you can obtain access to the part catalogues by reviewing the index in the Technical Section of 997 Register forum.

Regards,

Clive.

Hi , I have the same car as you and have considered the swap to a paddle shift wheel. Could I be cheeky and asked what it cost you to do the swap..
Many thanks
Dave.

Hi Dave - I no longer have the 997 as I traded it via Porsche Centre Solihull for my 991 last June.

I think I paid between £800/900 when I fitted mine back in 2009.

Judging from the attached link they appear to have gone up significantly but I only looked at the one site. It looks like you may have to pay between £1200/1300 and it does need to be professionally fitted unless you, unlike me have the right know how and tools.

Not cheap, by any means but it really makes the driving pleasure that little more special imho. Others my disagree, especially the "manual gearbox" brigade, but I won't go there!!
