trying to update my head unit from Blaupunkt to Pioneer but although it was fitted and worked ok the alarm when set beeps a single warning as if there's a problem. fitter seemed to think it might need an extra piece of wiring to sort. any insight from anyone. thanks

On the original head unit there was a wire connected to a switch on the radio cage. When the stereo is removed, it earths this connection, which sets the alarm off if the radio is removed while the car is locked.

I expect your fitter re-connected the wire to the new cage, which is earthed. You need to remove that wire and insulate it.

Hi Richard

there was no wire attached to cage or switch. the alarm didn't go off as such. but when I set it it, it beeped to warn something wasn't right as it does if the lid or door isn't shut properly. would this have not been done to install the after market blaupunkt?

Fitting an aftermarket stereo won't cause the alarm beep in itself. I am sure that the radio cage contact wire must have been connected to earth - it is a very common mistake to make. Look for a brown wire with a blue tracer, and insulate it.
