After 2 months I am still no further in getting a stereo to fit my car, 3 in car entertainment places all want to take my amp out and rewire the stereo at a great expense. They all say the DIN plug is old and theres nothing I can do with it.

I would like to fit a standard Porsche stereo, I dont mind bad quality radio etc.. I just want a stereo for long journeys, I am planning a rsr exhaust for the short journeys[;)]

So far I have purchased a Pioneer DEH P77MP cd player, I can get it to work by plugging the number 1 lead into it. But I cant wire the speakers up. Any idear how I can do this.

Does any one know what standard stereo will just plug and play into these wire or what was original to the car 1995 993 TT. Anyone happen to have one they could sell me?

Or can anyone please explain what these wires are in detail to me so I could fit it in myself? Especially the number 3 wire, I havent a clue what this one is?

Thanks in advance, David.

This is the jungle sticking out of my dash at the moment:

The reason you can't wire the speakers up is that you don't have any speaker cables in the looms sticking out of your dashboard. No 1 plug is the one carrying power, ground and lighting circuit. No 2 plug is possibly aerial related, or amplifier related. No 3 is, (I'm 90% certain), the umbilical to the amplifier. No 4 could be for a changer. The speaker cables run to the respective speakers from the amplifier that is usually under the seat, although I am prepared to be corrected on it's exact location. This is the problem, because your No 3 cable is the one that gets the radio and amplifier talking to each other, meaning there's no direct connection to the speakers from the dash area.

Check out the wiring tips sheet that Maurice very kindly posted in the reference section. It gives the route through to the doors that you can run speaker cables. The other end, you can take to the back of your new radio and connect to the wiring loom coming from the back of it. Not a difficult job, but one that an installation place will obviously want to charge a rate for.

Thank you Oliver,

Looks like I will have to rewire then.

But I would like to try an original head unit but I have seen a few differant sorts. Any idear what my car would have come with?

This was posted on rennlist for the 8 pin plug:

The original head units were made by Becker and if you had the original wiring you should be able to buy a Becker unit and plug it straight in. The fact you have another brand may mean you have different wiring now.

My 1997 C2S had a Porshce CDR 21 - (Single CD and Radio) I purchased a Becker unit with MP3 a while back and have been very happy as it keeps "the look and style"

Thank you for the advice Will,

I have tried to search for a picture of the back of the units you mentioned but the one I saw didnt seem to have the Round DIN plug in the back of it. Does yours have this on the Becker Mexico Pro?

Regards, David.
